Scaffold Access for 50-Panel Solar Installation
Overview
A North Wales industrial unit required solar panels to be installed across its roof space. Having selected a team to undertake the fit, they required safe and stable access across the full roof area in order to complete the work as efficiently as possible without impacting on activity within the building or security on the outside.
A5G Access were called in to design and install a complete scaffold structure around the perimeter of the warehouse to accommodate the restricted rear access to the building. We kept the scaffold safe, clear and fully TG20 compliant from the very first lift until it was struck down at the end of the hire period.
The Challenge
In terms of access, this was definitely a job that posed something of a puzzle. Installed very close to the rear of the building was a security fence which impacted upon how much space was actually available for scaffold feet. This immediately meant that our team had to think creatively about where to locate our bases and tie- ins, without crossing the boundary.
The size of the roof, along with the number of panels being installed, also dictated that our working platform would need to accommodate continual movement of materials up and down throughout the fit.
Our Approach
After surveying the job, our CISRS trained engineers designed and built a TG20-compliant independent access scaffold with fully boarded working platforms and incorporated full edge protection around the roof perimeter. To accommodate the security fence limiting how far our scaffold could encroach on the property boundary, we adjusted the placement of our bases and tying in points to suit without breaking compliance or overstepping the boundary.
As with any scaffold solution from A5G Access, everything we constructed was inspected upon handover and again during the hire period. We also supplied full paperwork upon installation and through the life of the project so our customers could be confident that their team were safe at all times and could remain completely focussed on the task at hand.
“We couldn’t have done it without you. The scaffold was just what we needed to get all of those panels installed safely and on time.”
Result
The solar panel installation team were able to complete the fit safely, within their timescale and with no delays caused by access restrictions. Upon completion, we returned to the site to dismantle the scaffold and broke the structure down efficiently, leaving the area how we found it.
